About Me

After 10 years in business I returned to school full-time in 2006 to pursue an academic career in political theory. I will graduate from the University of Waterloo in 2008 with a Joint Honours degree in Political Science and History and I plan to complete my PhD in the Northeastern United States or Eastern Canada five years later. I am interested in foundational concepts of justice, democratic political theory and alternate forms of governance, as well as the politics and history of the Middle East and the developing world.

In my former life I worked as a corporate training director and learning management consultant focused on e-learning, executive and medical education, and marketing communications. From 2000 to 2002 I directed the training and development strategy at Bell Nexxia, the $3 billion enterprise services arm of Bell Canada, and produced award-winning e-learning programs for 2000 sales, management, engineering and customer service professionals. I also worked in marketing communications, media relations and sales at Bell from 1997 to 1999.

In August 2002 I moved to Europe for three years, where, among other things, I was Director of Programs for Swiss Virtual Business School, a management education company founded by professors at the University of St. Gallen, the top-ranked business school in German-speaking Europe. Swiss Virtual Business School has designed advanced, blended e-learning programs for executives at major European companies including Allianz Group, Credit Suisse and Helvetia Patria, and has co-developed international programs with the Rotman School of Management at the University of Toronto and the Wharton School of Business.

My consulting work has emphasized helping customers in business, health, education and non-profit sectors to turn their homegrown knowledge into integrated, revenue-generating, educational business models, and designing innovative e-learning content formats that can hold the interest of audiences that are usually too focused on the tasks at hand to benefit from on-going development, such as sales professionals, network engineers and orthopedic trauma surgeons.

I also freelance as a writer and marketing communications specialist. For more detail, you can find my complete CV here.
